GPA's work on SurveyLA's LGBT Historic Context Statement earns a 2016 LA Conservancy Preservation Award! Los Angeles has a rich - yet often overlooked - lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) heritage. As part of its multi-year survey of the city's historic resources, the City of Los Angeles Office of Historic Resources (OHR) completed the country's first historic context statement for places associated with this heritage. Producing a historic context statement is an important first step in identifying and protecting significant places, and providing a framework for their evaluation. The SurveyLA LGBT Historic Context Statement represents a milestone in weaving the stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals into the overall history of Los Angeles.
(Read More)The star-studded premiere of the City of LA's documentary, "Bridging Los Angeles," will be held at the Ronald F. Deaton Civic Auditorium on Thursday, January 14th. The enlightening documentary details how destructive flooding and snarled traffic congestion brought about the funding, design, and construction of the 14 monument bridges that span the Los Angeles river and what happens when the iconic 6th Street Via Duct falls victim to a destructive chemical reaction. Don't miss this rare opportunity to tour the legendary Hughes Aircraft Company facility where Howard Hughes designed and built the famous Spruce Goose. Renamed the Hercules Campus, many of the site's transformed historic buildings are thriving and in use by technology and creative firms such as YouTube. (Read More)GPA's work on the documentary film, "The Historical Life of the Agnew Tramway" garners a CPF design award, as well as a Telly Award. Competing against nearly 12,000 other entries. The documentary, about the 100-year-old Agnew Tram system at the Rush Creek Powerhouse in June Lake, will help to preserve the memories of the original tram. Check out the link to see the video.
